Web Summit Rio 2024: Insights, Experiences and Connections from an ALPHA Startup

GLG News | Diana Alves | APR. 30, 2024

After being selected as an ALPHA startup for one of the largest tech conferences in the world, our team at Glass Ladder Group had an exhilarating experience in Rio de Janeiro last month during Web Summit Rio 2024.

From riding energy generating stationary bikes to empowering discussions on AI, we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the latest changes and innovations in tech, especially in the Brazilian market. In just a few days, we were able to showcase our work on stage, connect with attendees at our booth, and create life-long memories with our colleagues.

Presenting Our Work

During the conference we presented our work to attendees from our booth, stationed in the impact and women in tech section. Having a booth among other startups and organizations committed to impact made our experience so much more than an opportunity to pitch. Instead it felt more like a hub where the seeds for meaningful collaborations were being planted. We connected with several companies and individuals, exchanging ideas, and exploring potential partnerships. The genuine interest in our mission to create more culturally agile campaigns and organizations through insights, strategy and strategy communications was truly motivating and left us feeling excited about the incredible projects to come in Brazil and the U.S.

Startup Showcase

The 2-minute startup Showcase was a pivotal moment that provided our founder with a platform to amplify our work, demonstrate the impact of our projects, and share our vision for shaping the future of work in front of a crowd of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts. Watch the video below for a sneak peak of Sabrina’s remarks on the showcase stage.

The AI Trend

AI was the main topic of Web Summit Rio 2024, delving into geopolitics, workplaces, and startup ecosystems. Beyond the initial buzz surrounding ChatGPT and other emerging generative AI technologies, the event unveiled analyses of AI innovation models worldwide, focusing on preventing the brain drain of AI talent and averting another tech valuation bubble.

Eduardo Magrani, a professor at Harvard BKC and lawyer with CCA Law Firm, shed light on Brazil's position in the AI arms race. Despite facing stiff global competition, Brazil occupies a unique position, not being among the major players. Magrani highlighted the importance of cultural and ethical considerations in AI innovation, suggesting that Brazil could draw lessons from different models across regions. A Personal Perspective on the Magic of Web Summit

Our team member Juliana, captured the essence of the event perfectly sharing that, "Attending the @websummitrio was an exhilarating experience that left me inspired and energized. The diverse array of speakers, ranging from tech titans to budding entrepreneurs, offered valuable insights into the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Networking opportunities [were flowing], providing me with the chance to connect with like-minded individuals and forge meaningful partnerships. As I navigated through the various talks, workshops, and exhibitions, I felt a sense of empowerment, knowing that I was part of a global community driving positive change through technology. The Web Summit Rio was not just a conference; it was a transformative journey that left an indelible mark on my professional and personal growth.”

Perks and Sightings

And obviously, like any other great conference, there were tons of perks! We scored some great freebies like mini ring lights, swag bags, and notebooks from some of the most innovative companies and brands in world focused on finance, energy, and education. We even had the opportunity to experience a real robo-dog doing tricks like rolling over, standing on its hind legs for attention, and walking around the exhibition hall.

We loved our time together and can't wait for the next opportunity to share our next experience connecting as a team! Stay tuned for more in future posts.
